RAAC “Looks Like Concrete Aero Bar”

The Scottish government said it was still trying to determine how many schools containing concrete were at risk of collapsing.

More than 100 schools in England have been asked to close areas of their buildings that contain RAAC.

Housing Minister Paul McLennan said councils across the country were conducting assessments, and all were expected to submit their reports by next week. He also said he was aware of two schools where safety work was taking place.

The Scottish government said that where it exists, remedial actions could include closing affected rooms or sections of the building and using temporary units for pupils to ensure continuity of education.

Colin Mickle, Associate Architect at BDP in Glasgow, explained what RAAC is, what the problem with it is, and why and when it was used.
